Guidance and support for additional roles in primary care

NHS England is encouraging primary care leaders to use its resource of guidance and tools to support primary care networks (PCNs) with planning, recruiting and embedding new roles under the additional roles reimbursement scheme (ARRS).

The documents are being put on a dedicated space on FutureNHS and includes information about each of the roles, job descriptions and case studies.

Updates include guidance on alternative employment models and an example SLA, and support for PCNs on providing clinical supervision. GP partners and practice managers can sign up for access to FutureNHS by emailing [email protected] using an NHS or similar professional email address.

In addition, Health Education England has developed a new pathway which can help paramedics and their supervisors with their move into primary care, called the ‘roadmap to practice’.

It outlines the skills and attributes needed for paramedics to become first contact practitioners or advanced practitioners.

The roadmap also provides a clear educational pathway for paramedics who wish to work in primary care, as well as setting out the supervision and governance needed and giving training guidance for supervisors.
