NHS England has produced a new toolkit to help practices and commissioners to implement online consultations.
Under the new GP contract practices are required to offer online consultations from April next year and video consultations from 2021.
The interactive toolkit includes an outline of what the patient journey should look like, what modalities practices can choose from, namely questionnaire-based, online triage or video conference, and tips on what approach will be best for your practice – as well as advice on regulatory and risk management considerations.
Importantly the toolkit acknowledges that practices have gaps in IT infrastructure to implement online consultations and notes that more funding is due to be made available.
